Councils decide on higher tax deduction for children in external care
Natalya Ezzaini
On 16 September 2021, the Council of States approved the bill. In future, parents will be able to deduct up to CHF 25,000 from direct federal tax for childcare costs.
However, the Council of States now wants to amend the bill in favour of all families. In the future, it will be possible to claim CHF 300 per child instead of the current CHF 251 for the so-called parents' tariff.
The National Council must now decide again on the increase of the parents' tariff to CHF 300 per child. The bill will therefore go back to the upper chamber.
