Referenda against STAF proposal and arms directive

The referenda against the Federal Law on Tax Reform and OASI Financing (STAF) and against the Federal Decree on the amended EU Arms Directive (further development of the Schengen acquis) have been formally adopted.
On 17th January 2019 the referendum committees collected 61,381 signatures against the federal law of 28th September 2018 on tax reform and the financing of the old age and survivors' insurance (STAF). A review by the Federal Chancellery revealed that 60,749 of these signatures are valid.
Also on 17 January 2019, 125,692 signatures were submitted against the Federal Decree of 28 September 2018 on the approval and implementation of the exchange of notes between Switzerland and the EU concerning the adoption of Directive (EU) 2017/853 amending the EU Arms Directive (further development of the Schengen acquis). The examination by the Federal Chancellery revealed that 125,233 of these signatures are valid.
Both referenda have thus been formally concluded. In accordance with the Federal Council's decision of 16 January 2019, these proposals will therefore be put to the vote on 19 May 2019.
