Council of States agrees on bill to abolish imputed rental value
Natalya Ezzaini
On 21 September 2021, the Council of States, as the first Council, approved the bill.
The imputed rental value is to be abolished for primary residences at both cantonal and federal level. In the case of owner-occupied second properties, the imputed rental value should continue to be taxable, as should income from renting or leasing. The Council of States has also advocated that the deduction of debt interest should continue to be possible under certain conditions, namely to the extent of 70 percent.
The bill will now be dealt with by the National Council.
