Popular initiative for a "micro-tax" launched
Peter von Burg
Initiators around Prof. Dr. Marc Chesney and former Federal Council spokesman Oswald Sigg announced to media people on 15 November 2019 that a collection of signatures for a popular initiative for a "micro-tax" is to start next January 2020.
The tax is intended to automatically cover cashless payment transactions with a uniform tax rate in the per mille range and is intended to replace the three federal taxes, namely value added tax, direct federal tax and stamp duty (see https://mikrosteuer.ch/de/die-initiative/in-kuerze/).
Rejectionist comments have already appeared in the media landscape (see e.g. the NZZ commentary of 16 November 2019).
The website of the initiators is available here.
