Birgit Köhler is a partner in the Tax & Legal department of Deloitte GmbH in Munich and heads the Financial Services Tax department for Deloitte in Germany. She specializes in advising global insurance companies, company pension schemes and asset management companies. A particular focus of her advisory work is the tax law of capital investments of institutional investors in the financial services sector. After training as an industrial clerk and studying business law at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg, Birgit began her career in tax law in 2003. Before joining Deloitte in April 2020, she worked in a law firm specializing in advising wealthy private clients and in the financial services tax department of another Big Four company. Birgit is also a lecturer at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg and the Munich University of Applied Sciences and an academic advisor to the journal "Recht der Finanzinstrumente".
