Federal Council adopts additional message on the elimination of the "marriage penalty

On 14 August 2019, the Federal Council adopted the supplementary message on the amendment of the Federal Act on Direct Federal Taxation (Balanced Couples and Family Taxation).
The supplementary message contains new or updated estimates to the March 2018 message, which, based on the updated estimate of the financial impact, will result in a reduction in direct federal tax revenues of around CHF 1.5 billion. Of this amount, around CHF 1.2 billion is attributable to the Confederation and around CHF 300 million to the cantons.
